Band And Ensembles
Music is an integral part of College life.
The College provides a number of music ensembles in which all students at the College can participate.
Currently the College is running two Concert bands. Both bands are tutored in sections during class time and rehearse at lunch times. A Junior band is formed at the Sion Campus for students who have not had a lot of musical experience. The Senior band has its base on the St Patrick’s Campus.
Two String ensembles are formed each year. A learning String group at the Sion campus and a Senior String group at the St. Patrick’s campus.
An exciting new innovation for 2008 is the introduction of a Rock bandprogram at the Sion campus which will see the formation of four junior Rock bands. The tuition of these bands will run on similar lines to that of the Concert band tuition, where students are taken out of class once a week for a 35 minute lesson.
There exists a Sion Campus choir and a St Patrick’s Campus choir, which has a liturgical focus.
Other musical groups such as a Stage band, a String Quartet and small vocal a cappella student groups are formed from time to time; this is encouraged by the music staff.
Attendance is compulsory for students having instrumental music lessons at the College, but is also open to other students who have the musical skills and may wish to participate as well.
All the ensembles give public performances and participate in Eisteddfods which gives the musicians valuable performance experience.
