Celebrations

Founders Day

Founders Day is to be celebrated on the 15th August.  It is a proper day to celebrate the Founders of our school.  The Sion Sisters belong to the the Congregation of Our Lady of Sion.  The Marist brothers are religious consecrated to God, and follow Jesus in the way that Mary did. Both the Brothers and the sisters have a special devotion to Mary.  August 15th is the feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven.  Last year the focus was on the different Houses  celebrating different aspects of what has made this school.  This year we aim to celebrate the building of the school on a variety of pillars.  We hope to erect this construction to represent the Sion and Marist heritage that has made our school what it is.

Blessing & Opening Ceremony

Catholic College Sale celebrated the Blessing and Official Opening of their new and refurbished facilities across both the Sion and St Patrick’s Campuses, at the newly refurbished Marcellin Room at Sion, on 10 October, 2008.

The new developments at Sion include a total refurbishment of the function room and canteen, a new music room facility, refurbished Art room facilities including a pottery room, uniform shop and amenities block. The West Wing of the St Pat’s Building has been refurbished to include new locker bays, classrooms and amenities.

The developments were partly funded by a $500,000 grant from the Commonwealth Government.
The buildings, constructed, furnished and equipped at a total cost of $1.67 million are a welcome addition to the Colleges state-of-the-art facilities.

Principal of the Catholic College Sale, Brother Paul Kane said, “We at the College have inherited some magnificent buildings and these developments ensure that they continue to facilitate our contemporary educational objectives.”
The ceremony began with the official party arriving to the stirring sounds of the bagpipes, played by a CCS Year 8 student, while supporters of the College gathered to hear the Administrator of the Diocese of Sale, Father Peter Slater, bless the new facilities, and Brother Julian Casey, Provincial of the Marist Brothers, formally open them.

A letter of congratulations from The Hon Julia Gillard MP, Deputy Prime Minister was presented at the ceremony. Ms Gillard‘s letter said “The Australian Government believes that every child deserves the right to a quality education, and this project is one way of helping to create a positive learning environment.”

The ceremony concluded with a moving rendition of the hymn “Song of St Patrick” delivered superbly by the Senior School Choir.

After the ceremony, students were on hand to assist guests who were invited to tour the new facilities.
