Our House Groups
The College’s House system exists to enrich the academic and social opportunities for our students. The six Houses have been named after six worthy patrons of our College whose lives are shining examples to which all students of the College can aspire in their journey to becoming valued members of society.
Sister Elizabeth Allman, became the Principal of Our Lady of Sion College Sale in 1971 and remained as principal until 1975, during which time Our Lady of Sion College and Saint Patrick’s College amalgamated to become Sale Catholic College.
The Daly family who were closely associated with the Colleges, especially St Patrick’s College since 1922 and contributed greatly to the success and growth of St Patrick’s College.
Brother Paulinus was the first Director of the St Patrick’s College in 1922.
Reverend Mother Marie Raphaela who was sent from France to establish Our Lady of Sion College in Sale. She designed and supervised the construction of the Sion building.
Father Theodore Ratisbonne was the founder of the Sion Sisters. He oversaw the opening of Houses under the patronage of “Our Lady of Sion” for the Christian education of Jewish boys and girls.
Saint Marcellin Champagnat was the founder of the Marist Brothers. He gave his brothers a clear mission “proclaim the Word of God directly to the young”.
Each student is assigned to a House group which forms the basis of the Pastoral Care structure at the College.
Pastoral groups at the Sion Campus (Years 7 and 8) are arranged on a year level basis. At the St Patrick’s Campus, each Pastoral group is made up of students from years 9 to 12, of the same House. Within these structures there exist opportunities for peer mentoring, House-based sporting, performing and artistic competitions, exercising leadership and a range of Pastoral Care activities.
The House system promotes a sense of belonging, encourages student contribution and includes a range of activities characterised by healthy competition and a strong house spirit.
