Uniform Regulations

In making Catholic College Sale the school of their choice, parents and students are fully aware that this entails wearing the designated College uniform and adhering to the accompanying requirements of personal presentation. Students, parents and staff should be clear about the expectations regarding the uniform and its wearing.

Second Hand Uniform Shop

This shop is located at the Sion Campus in the Year 8 building adjacent to the lunchroom.  It is open every Monday from 12.00noon to 1.00pm.  The last day of trading for the school year is advertised through the College newsletter.

Expectations on the Wearing of the Uniform

  • The good standing of the College is significantly influenced by the way students wear the uniform and present themselves.
  • Students are expected to present themselves well and to wear the uniform, including footwear, correctly (eg. shirts tucked in etc); this applies during school hours, while travelling to and from school, and when students are engaged in school activities out of school hours.  As well, students are to give attention to cleanliness, grooming and neatness.
  • The Student apparel consists only of the approved College uniform which may need to be adjusted to fit particular students.  The uniform code takes precedence over a student’s individual preference in matters of uniform.
  • All items should be clearly labelled to assist in the return of lost or misplaced items.
  • Parents/Guardians will give full support to the College authorities in ensuring that the uniform requirements and personal presentation of the students are in full accord with the College's uniform regulations.  Parents/Guardians will provide the student with an explanatory note should a student be temporarily unable to comply fully with the uniform regulations, ie full school uniform or full sports uniform.
  • Monitoring the correct wearing of the uniform is the joint responsibility of the student, his/her parent(s) or guardians and members of staff.  Any incorrect item of clothing is deemed to be out of uniform.  The Pastoral teacher is responsible for checking uniform at the start of the day and noting offences.  Teachers are expected to monitor uniform in all classes, and to ensure that students enter and leave classes appropriately dressed (ie. shirts tucked in and no incorrect items with the uniform).  Decisions on matters that are not specifically covered by this policy or are subject to dispute will be made by the Head of Campus.
  • On excursions, unless otherwise stated, full College Uniform is required.

Accessories and Personal Presentation

  • Hair: Hair must be neat and clean.  Some subtle colouring is permitted.  Extreme colouring and hairstyles are not permitted. Hair is to be tied back if shoulder length or longer using a plain blue or red ribbon or elasticized hair tie.  Students must be clean shaven and hair must be cut no shorter than a "number 2".
  • Jewellery: A plain set of sleepers or studs may be worn in the lobes of the ear.  Bracelets, chains and rings may not be worn. (The only exception is a fine neck chain with a small approved Christian symbol).  Obvious use of cosmetics (including nail polish) is not permitted.
  • Scarves / Gloves: Only plain navy scarves/gloves are permitted to be worn.
  • During Terms 1 and 4, the regulation College hat is a compulsory part of the uniform  at the Sion Campus and a strongly recommended part of the uniform at St Patrick’s Campus.
  • Weatherproof Jacket: The regulation College spray jacket may be worn.
  • Under-garments:  Any garments worn underneath the College uniform are not to be    visible.
  • Summer Girls’ Dress length:  The dress length should be at or below the knees.
  • Sports Jacket: Students are permitted to wear the College sports jacket over their jumper for the purpose of additional warmth at those times when the winter uniform is permissible, ie during Terms 2 and 3 and during the uniform changeover periods.  It must be worn over the school jumper.  If the jumper is not being worn then there is no need for the sports jacket to be worn since additional warmth is not needed.

College Sports Uniform

The Sports Uniform may be worn to and from school on the days when students have practical lessons of Physical Education, Outdoor Education, Leisure, Rec. and Fitness and sport. In addition, the sports uniform is required for all house and inter-school sporting activities. The Sports Uniform is not interchangeable with the regulation School Uniform, unless an explanatory note is provided.

Dealing with uniform infringements -

  • There exists a process for dealing with uniform infringements and a set of consequences of repeated non-conformity. The Campus Pastoral Teams, acting jointly, determine the process and the consequences.
  • In cases of extreme breaches of the uniform and personal presentation regulations, parents will be notified. The student will be removed from class and the parent may be asked to collect or make arrangements for the student to go home.
  • Students who are not wearing the uniform correctly or who are wearing items not in accord with the approved accessories will be informed and will have their names recorded. The non-approved accessories will be confiscated.

The consequences of infringements differ depending on the campus and are as follows:

At the St Patrick’s Campus -

  • First Uniform infringement: a 15 minute lunchtime detention.
  • Second Uniform infringement: a second 15 minute lunchtime detention.
  • Third Uniform infringement: a one hour after school detention.
