Year 7
Year 7 Camp
Year 7 at Catholic College Sale is full of energy, excitement and challenge. The Pastoral focus of Term One is transition with the feature event being the Orientation Camp at the Lions Wilderness Village, Licola. Students spend three days on Camp getting to know other students in their Pastoral Class, House Teams and friendship groups.
In addition to the Orientation Camp, during Term One we pend the Friday Leisure period working hard in providing opportunities for students to meet and interact with as many other students in the Year Level as possible. A major event as part of this time is the Tabloid Sports and Annual Year 7 Tug-o-War. Students and staff alike look forward to this event.
What some students said about Orientation Camp…..
“I really enjoyed camp because there was good food, nice staff and I could achieve my goals”
“We got to meet so many new people on Camp and the teachers were heaps of fun”
“This was probably the best camp I’ve ever been on although I did get pretty tired by the end of it”
In Year 7, students study year long courses in Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Humanities, Health & Physical Education, and Science. They also complete one semester each of Computer Skills and Languages Other Than English (LOTE) – French. Year 7 students are placed in smaller groups for their Arts/Technology studies and complete one term each of Art/Pottery, Food, Materials, and Music/Drama.
Students in need of literacy support are withdrawn from LOTE studies to complete a Direct Instruction Spelling and Decoding Program.
What some students think about their classes………
“There are so many subjects in Year 7 and most of them are exciting and fun”
“At first I thought there was a lot of homework, but now that I’m more organised its easier to manage”
“PE is my favourite subject because we get to participate in different activities to primary school. We o off our campus and use facilities around Sale”
The Year 7 Pastoral Team
The Pastoral Teacher is the primary contact for both students and parents in school related matters. Students spend majority of their class time with their Pastoral Class whilst in Year 7. They meet with the Pastoral Teacher each morning for Prayer, roll marking and daily notices. This time each day is the initial steps in building strong relationships between staff members and students. Pastoral Teachers generally teach their students for one or more classes in order to facilitate a strong Pastoral bond.
In 2008, the Year 7 Pastoral Team members are:
7 Charitas – Johanna Clancy
7 Edwardine – Michael Dowse
7 Martina – Carol Rumpf
7 Sabina – Teresa Tantaro
7 Osmond – Br Paul Murphy
7 Philomena – Dianne Stebbing
The Year 7 Pastoral Team is lead by our Co-Year Level Leaders. Kirsten and Justin are responsible for the management of students in the Year Level as well as other administrative matters. They organise and run the Year 7 Orientation Camp and transition program during Leisure.
The Co-Year Level Leaders work very closely with each Pastoral Teacher to ensure that a high quality, safe and enjoyable learning environment is provided in Year 7 and that each individual student can achieve at their highest potential.
